AARGHHHhhhh...
Fun: People who don't know the first thing about computers coming up with ideas about what we can do with them.
Funner: People who say it will be easy to do something, but have no idea how to do it.
Funnest: People who make grandiose plans with no idea how to execute them, and then dump them on me. I'm payed to answer the phone and shuffle paper, folks; I'm not your systems administrator, luser trainer, and database designer. For the love of Almighty BobWe don't even have database software!

Confusion
This is what happens when people fail to follow my directions. I try to implement a semi-standardized file naming system. Call the file whatever you want, and then just put its ISO 8601 date on the end. It's much easier to figure out what's going on when files are when they're titled things like "Agreement 06-09-15.doc" and "Agreement 06-09-12.doc" rather than things being named "Agreement1.doc", "Agreement2.doc" "Agreement.3" "Agreement3.old.doc" etc. I give up. If people aren't going to heed my advice, I'm not going to fix things when they break. I don't get paid for any of this anyway.
Furthermore, why is it so hard to drum into people's skulls that
WordPerfect is NOT a file manager!
WordPerfect not working has NO effect on one's ability to take a file from outlook and save it on the network drive. GAH!9.13.2006
I know I haven't updated in forever
and I'm not going to post much of an update now. However, I thought you all might like to know that my kitten enjoys sleeping in/on my overnight bag. It's quite cute. You ought to see it. That is all.

Breaking people of bad habits...
...is really hard to do, even when it's just habits about how they operate their computers. Like double-clicking on links in one's web browser of choice. It's just a pet peeve, and it (usually) doesn't mess things up too badly, but it really bothers me. On a more productivity-sapping note, for some reason, the people in this office were, for some reason, taught to use the open file dialogue box of their word processing program as their file manager. Needless to say, it does not work well, and considering that Windows has a relatively functional file manager built in ("My Computer" anyone?), there is no reason for anyone to use their word processor. However, every time I try to disabuse someone of the notion of the open file file manager, I am met with resistance, bordering on hostility. This notion is so deeply ingrained here that I was today asked how to "store a file in [word processing program]"‽ Not "on the hard drive". Not "on the network". In the [word processing program]. I need a LART
