So much to file.......
I'm beginning to plod my way through the filing. It wouldn't be so bad if there were some efficient way to do it, but the files are scattered through four-five-six different rooms. It seems like I'm spending more time looking for the folders to put the files in than I spend organizing the papers to go into the folders.
Possible solutions:
- Everybody keeps the files in the file room, rather than where they are being used. While this would make life easier for me, it would be a pain for everybody else, so it probably isn't workable
- Everybody keeps all of the files they are working on in file cabinets in their offices. This seems like a good compromise, since I wouldn't have to dig for files, and the attorneys wouldn't have to go to the file room every time they wanted to dig something up. Down side, may require purchasing more file cabinets, and requires attorneys to be organized.
- Everybody works digitally. This office is 100% wired and equipped to scan everything and work off of PDF's instead of paper files. This would make my life easier, since all the paper files would be in one place, and make the attorneys' lives easier, since they wouldn't even have to leave their desks to look up anything. Down sides are we have a huge backlog of papers to scan, and old lawyers are not always the best at mastering new technology.
Number 3 would be my choice; the paperless office is the way things are going anyway. Everybody ought to get used to it, embrace it, and welcome our new, Adobe overlords.
